David Altman began his musical career as a 6th grader in Charlotte, North Carolina where he played trumpet for the school band. The next year he switched over to euphonium which has been his primary instrument for the last 7-8 years. In 8th grade he made the decision to make music his life long career and has been pursuing that dream ever since.

David began his marching years at Olympic High School in North Carolina. After his freshmen year he moved to Newburgh, Indiana. This is where he spent his sophomore through senior years marching baritone and then euphonium for the Castle Marching Knights. Senior year he was selected as the 2014 Brass Captain for the program.

Since living in North Carolina David has always had a passion for Carolina Crown. In 2012 he was able to attend DCI Finals in Indy to watch Crown perform their program “For The Common Good”. That moment David decided to march with Crown no matter what and since that night he has taken the necessary steps to ensure that dream. David also was able to attend finals in 2013, 2014 as a fan, then in 2015 as a member of Carolina Crown.

David attended the 2014 Music for All Summer Symposium and was able to get an up close look at Carolina Crown. During the portion of the week when the campers march with Crown some of the visual and brass staff approached him and encouraged him to audition for the 2015 season. This only helped his drive behind getting a contract. In 2015 he auditioned for the hornline and was given a spot to march euphonium for their 2015 show “Inferno”.

David is returning to march his second of five years with the Carolina Crown and plans to age out with the group. He is futhuring his education at Ball State University where he is majoring in Instrumental General Music Education. In the winter season for 2016-2017 he is also looking into marching with the Rhythm-X Winds group. Follow him on social media:
