A short amount of time has passed between the DCI Tour Premiere, where we witnessed few but strong drum corps kick off the early season, and last night at Louisville. Four out of six of the drum corps present at Louisville had just performed in Indianapolis, but that didn't obscure any of their energy for the night. From six World Class performances and a special performance from Cincinnati Tradition, we were greeted with massive competition that we can hope to see progress into a week-by-week fight for placement throughout the season. To sum up the performances, The Cadets took 1st with a leading 70.900, slightly higher than the previous 69.850 at the tour premiere, putting much more energy into their performance, and placing them into 2nd overall in the current leader boards (between Blue Devils and Santa Clara Vanguard after their recent scores). As well however, the other three of the four corps had showed noticeable growth in performance in such a short amount of a time, and a slight increase in scores. Whether if it be the change between judges, or the quick progression of the corps in those few days, we can highly anticipate that they will continue to rise much more as the season goes on.
The Cadets, Bluecoats, and Carolina Crown had left a massive gap between scores in the tour premiere. Yet only The Cadets of the three had performed last night, but had left another gap between their 70.900 and the second place position of The Cavaliers at 65.800. With little over a five point difference, the corps will continue to match back and forth in performance, although it is unclear how much of a difference there will be. Although, don't for a second think the scores will remain at this distance between the two for the rest of the season, as we've always seen a bend/gap between two corps that alternate from a small spread to massive spread, and vice versa. Between these corps, it'll be known that they will not disappoint this season, and will make major contending between the top six corps.
Third place was filled up by Madison Scouts, who have brought their roots back onto the field, settling right between The Cavaliers and Blue Stars again with a 62.400, barely higher than the Blue Stars at 62.000. The scores hit close to eachother, which will mean another sign of heavy competition between the two, and possibly an exchange between placement throughout the season, especially with the higher music score Blue Stars had brought over Madison Scouts. Lastly, onto fifth and six place, came Crossmen and Troopers, (61.200 and 58.100) who have some visual elements to work on, but have excitably progressed this season from last year, and will hopefully keep up the trend. However, we haven't seen much of Crossmen this season, so there isn't an accurate estimation of how much the Crossmen will progress, however we can expect them to gradually improve and rise up in their performance finesse.
