DCI West brought together 10 corps for one of the highlight shows in the west. Blue Devils, Santa Clara Vanguard, and Phantom Regiment highlighted the show.

The Blue Devils are building on the success from the 2014 season by winning their first two competitions in a row, and sweeping all captions except for color guard and percussion. “Ink” is all about how stories are created. They finished in first place for the DCI West show with a very respectable score of 73.45.

The Santa Clara Vanguard are bringing “A Spark of Invention” to life along the west coast. This production celebrates the spirit of Nikola Tesla. This is very evident with the large, prop Tesla Coils around the field. They finished the night by taking the percussion and color guard captions ahead of the Blue Devils. The Vanguard finished in 2nd place with a score of 71.90.

Phantom Regiment is once again touring the west coast, the first time since 2012. Their production, “City of Light” brings the spirit of Paris to life. The Phantom Regiment is off to a strong start this season by taking 3rd in GE, Visual, and Music, and 3rd overall with a score of 68.05.

The Blue Knights are building off their success from the 2014 season by coming out with a production called “Because.” This show is built around the song by the same name that was written by John Lennon. The Blue Knights still have to finish their production, but they are going in the right direction. They finished in 4th with a score of 66.40.

Pacific Crest is looking like a new corps, both literally and figuratively. They have new uniforms that are just gorgeous and their production is a perfect fit for them. “The Catalyst” the title of their 2015 production and this could literally be a catalyst for them to move up in ranks. They had a strong performance and took 5th place with a score of 61.00.

The Mandarins are off to a good start in the west coast tour by presenting their show, “Resurrection.” This show is all about the Terra Cotta Warriors rising up from their sleep. The Mandarins finished in 6th place with a respectable score of 59.85.

Four Open Class corps also performed tonight at DCI West.

The Vanguard Cadets are going to be in another battle with the Blue Devils B all season. Vanguard Cadets had a strong performance and took GE, guard, and percussion. They finished in 1st with a score of 57.60.

Blue Devils B are continuing success from the 2014 season by taking 2nd tonight. They took Visual, Music, and brass tonight. They had a 2nd place score of 56.80.

Golden Empire and Blue Devils C rounded out the competition in 3rd and 4th place. Golden Empire finished in 3rd with a 48.55 and Blue Devils C finished in 4th with a score of 38.50.
