DCI St. Louis was a night of placement changes.
The Cadets scored a 76.100 which not only is the highest score of the night and for their season, but also places them overall in first place above the Blue Devils by a point and Santa Clara Vanguard by a point and a half. The Cadets also took first in every caption and beat out The Cavaliers by nearly five points. Will the Cadets continue this lead or will another corps take a huge stride and best them?
The Cavaliers jumped up in placements from 8th to 6th with a two point increase in score since their last performance. The are showing great signs of improvements in music and visual and I think they'll make a mid-season push in placements and stay in top 6.
The Crossmen, finishing third in St. Louis was able to push ahead of Pacific Crest after Pacific Crest made a competitive surge into the top 12 and ahead of Crossmen. Although they were mostly in third place across the board, in General Effect 1, they were labled as fifth overall.
Spirit of Atlanta is coming out of the ashes. With an off 2014 season, Spirit of Atlanta is pushing hard with their program this year and it's starting to pay off. Their placement last night was behind Crossmen but their overall placement has been pushed to 13th. Possibly with some polishing, we can see them again in finals again. It is hard to say since overall scores are from different competitions but I think once corps meet in San Antonio, we are going to see some surprising scores and results.
Colts, coming off a 13th place seating last season, is currently sitting in 16th place but with a three point improvement since their last performance. Their aren't too far behind Spirit of Atlanta so maybe after some more cleaning, we can see a mid-season jump.
Pioneer began their competitive season last night with their show "Exodus: Divide the Sea, Unite the People!". So far, Pioneer isn't off to a bad start. They took an extra week of Spring Training this year and it looks like it paid off for them. They are showing signs of having a promising program this year and it looks like they're moving away from a typical pioneer show.
As of right now, I believe it's anyone's game. The season has proven to be a great year time after time and every night I am surprised with scores in a good way. I can't wait to look forward to see what happens next. To see overall placements, click here.
