I spoke with Alana Stevenson, one of the drum majors for the Blue Devils A Corps and asked her a few questions about the 2015 season.
1. What is your favorite thing about being a Blue Devils' Drum Major?
My favorite thing about being a Blue Devils' drum major is going out on the field and performing with all of my fellow members.
2. During all days, what do you do to stay calm despite having the same schedule everyday?
I usually try to take naps during the dinner break. In addition, I make sure to check in with my family a couple of times a week to help me keep perspective on everything. The biggest thing that helps us stay calm is resting up on our free days each Monday.
3. What can audiences expect from the 2015 Blue Devils?
This year there is something for everyone in the show. It is definitely one of the more fan friendly shows Blue Devils have had in recent years. There are characters on the field that audience members can identify with and follow. In addition, there are some nods to previous Blue Devils shows while bringing in some very new and exciting ideas (like using GOT7 for source music).
4. Are you looking forward to any particular moments on tour?
I am looking forward to going to Tanglewood this summer. As an oboe player I have been wanting to go to Tanglewood for years, so I am excited that I will finally get to go (although not in the way I ever had expected). It will be an exciting experience being able to hear the Boston Pops live.
Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to answer these questions! I can't wait to see you and the Blue Devils this season and I wish you the best of luck!
