The Santa Clara Vanguard came out swinging tonight as they captured 1st place over the Phantom Regiment and the Blue Knights in the Corps at the Crest, San Diego edition. Their victory included a sweep of all the captions, earning them a 75.95. The Phantom Regiment placed 2nd, but only barely. The Blue Knights were two tenths of a point behind in 3rd place. The Blue Knights beat Phantom Regiment in both GE and Music, but fell to them in the Visual category. These two corps will be battling it out up through Finals based on competitions this season. The Academy had a strong performance tonight as they finished in 4th place. They took 4th place across the board and finished with a score of 65.45. Pacific Crest finished in a respectable 5th tonight with a score of 63.20. Mandarins rounded out World Class competition in 6th with a 61.25. Five Open Class Corps competed tonight alongside the six World Class Corps. Golden Empire, Gold, Watchmen, Impulse, and Incognito all competed and had solid performances. Golden Empire left competition as the Open Class Champion tonight with a score of 50.70. They took the GE and Music captions. Gold took 2nd tonight with a score of 49.60 taking 1st in the Visual category. The Watchmen finished in 3rd place with a 44.55 and Impulse in 4th with a 43.85 and a 3rd overall in GE. Incognito rounded out Open Class competition in 5th with a 34.75.
