So, I am going to break down each corps, then I will give my final 2 cents. I was unable to see Open class. Spirit of Atlanta- Neck and neck with the colts, Spirit is really rivaling them with Music and GE. These are definitely Spirits best categories, and its showing through the scores. Visual however really needs work, not just cleaning, maybe even some big changes. Something needs to happen soon because visual will kill them in the long run if it can’t catch up. Although not entirely scored, colorguard did good tonight but Colts seemed to have the better colorguard. Colts- As opposed to Spirit, Visual and also percussion are their biggest captions. I did not get the GE too much from these captions however. That being said they will be a forced to be reckoned with if they layer their GE some more, and it catches up to the visual category. Brass also needs to clean a bit more. Blue Stars-My how they have improved since the premier. Drill is cleaner, but still troubling. Colts beat them by quite a few decimals in visual tonight. GE and Music is their strong suite, similar to Spirit. The music GE specifically is just great, I can understand their show just from the brass. Percussion was just so hyped, and I love it. Great performance. The Cavaliers have really improved their GE game, adding little details since I last saw them. Visual as well has gotten cleaner and is getting closer to Vanguard. Music however still needs more cleaning, and maybe even changing parts. It seems like some of the music can be redundant sometimes in the low dynamic sections. Percussion is still good though, and I hope to see them climb up in the next few weeks. Vanguard is just fantastic right now. Percussion is just as much on fire as last year. Musically including brass they are doing very well. They are also doing good in visual, however the Cavaliers are catching up in that caption. They make up for it however with their GE, seeming to immerse the audience in the scientific phenomena of their show. SCV has a shot at Beating Coats and Crown if they keep improving. Final thoughts- Everyone tonight really has a nice base concept, but some need to change the framework. Sometimes cleaning is not enough to reach to higher levels and to those corps above you. Drill, music, or GE changes of any kind will help these corps improve and rise up to a higher placement.
